About this project.
This is an affiche I have made for the exhibition 'Voyage Voyage', organized by Atelier 4. The theme 'voyage voyage' centers around the question: which data do you want to collect, put in a time capsule and send to the future? When I was thinking about data in the future I was thinking about terms as: access, storage and protection. How do we save all these enormous amounts of data and how do we protect them?
Quickly I had to think about cloud-services, which are digital places to store your data online. More and more people but also companies are using these services, they are going 'into the cloud.' By using these services you have always and everywhere access to your data but how is this going with the protection of your files?
Lots of people don't know that (for instance) the American government has access to the files in a lot of these clouds under the guise of the war against terrorism. The law that allowed this is called the Patriot Act. In my affiches I tried to visualize the contradiction, on the one hand the ease and the 'romanticism' of these clouds and on the other hand the possible underlying 'danger'.
I am curious how this is going to develop in the future. How are we going to handle sensitive information, the storage of this information and the access to it?
